Hogle Zoo
We went to the Hogle Zoo on Saturday to celebrate the fact that Doug finished his capstone rough draft (21 pages! Wohoo!) and to spend some family time together before Doug left for his week long trip with the Landscape Management group. They're going to California for a competition/conference (more on that later). It was a wonderful day, 70 degrees, slightly windy, wonderful. But of course with conditions like that, EVERYONE thinks of going to the zoo. It was pretty crowded, but we managed. I made Evelynn bring and wear her red hat the whole time, so I never lost her in the crowd. It wasn't too hard though because she was terrified that the animals were going to get out of their cages and get her and as a result she stuck close to us the entire time. It took half of the trip for her to realize this wasn't going to happen, and then she began to enjoy herself immensely. In fact, we all did. It was a fantastic family outing.
The red hat was so cute on her and made her so much like a little kid and not my baby. I think she was pointing at the monkey's, our first stop.
Hogle Zoo had a new elephant encounter where you can get really close and watch them eat and stuff. It was pretty neat. This was the entrance. The metal elephant made funny noises (like an elephant "sneezing" and singing songs) but it terrified Evelynn.
Evelynn shows us she's scared by covering her ears. I don't know why. This was how she spent the first few exhibits.
The rhinos. Evelynn knew all the names of the animals we saw because she had seen them in stuffed form at the BYU Bean Museum many many times. I think it unnerved her to see that they were actually alive and moving.

This is Evelynn watching the scary zebra's. They were pretty close to the fence and it made her nervous.
Eloise in the stroller, of course. She really liked looking at the animals, but I had to stay out of sight or else this would happen. Mommy, get me out!

Train ride with Daddy! I can't believe they charge you a whole dollar to go on it, (personally I think it should be free, but then I think most things should be) but Evelynn loved it.
